"The Lights Are On" was written one December when I decided that the world could use another Christmas song (chuckle), so I sat down to write one. It struck me that Christmas was this time of year during which people's mood lift a little, when folks tend to be a bit more cheerful and generous, and I thought about how great it would be if we kept a bit of that spirit all year long.

This was another song that was earning last-minute lyric changes as I scrambled for a pen while in front of the microphone between takes. It really limits the producer's ability to pick the "best" take when the lyrics are different on every one!
